At the heart of the close loop coating weight thickness control system in hot dip galvanizing is the continuous and adaptive mathematical process model that calculates the coating weight, pressure or distance for any given combination of the production parameters with great precision.
Model parameters
Model contains the reguired continuous and strongly nonlinear physical relation between process parameters such as:
The influencing parameters that change seldom such as the coating material (GI, GF, GL, etc.) and different air knives are taken into account by individual automatic model parameter sets.
The following diagram shows as an example of the relation between nozzle pressure, air knife to strip distance and strip speed for a coating weight of 100 g/m2.

Adaptation
The coating weight control system is continuously adapting the model parameters.
The online self-adapting of the model parameters is done through advanced learning algorithms with the highest possible weight on the data validity.
Adaptation conditions are tested after every traversing scan of the cold coating weight gauge. This leads to very fast but stable recognition of the slightly floating process conditions.
On a new line after some days of adaptation the control result will outrun manual pre-setting and control result.
Data Inquiry
The model inquiry function allow the operator manually ask the resulting nozzle pressure, coating thickness or air knife to strip distance when the other parameters are known.
